Dr Peter Richardson graduated from the University of Western Australia in 1963. He fulfilled Membership of The Royal College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists training requirements at the King Edward Memorial Hospital for Women and the Fremantle Hospital in Perth, Western Australia and the Royal Hospital for Women in Sydney, New South Wales. Dr Richardson then worked in the United Kingdom from 1968 to 1970 as a Senior Registrar at St Luke’s Hospital in Guildford and as a locum Consultant to the Welsh Regional Hospital Board. During his time in the UK he was further trained in laparoscopy by Patrick Steptoe in Oldham, and in ultrasound by Ian Donald at the Queen Mother’s Hospital in Glasgow. From 1970 to 1972 Dr Richardson was in private practice in New York, USA as attending Obstetrician and Gynaecologist to St. Joseph’s Hospital and Arnott-Ogden Memorial Hospital. 1973 saw him return to Perth and enter into specialist practice with Dr Michael Connaughton. In 1991 Dr Richardson was elected Chairman of the National Association of Specialist Obstetricians and Gynaecologists and continued with this role until 1995. He was elected National President of the Australian Association of the Ambulatory Vaginal and Incontinence Surgeons (AAVIS) in 1995 continued in this role until 2000. During this time he chaired the 1995 and 1997 National AAVIS scientific meetings (of which the 1997 meeting was a satellite of Royal Australian College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists Scientific Meeting) at Royal Perth Hospital that were attended by gynaecologists from all over Australia. He has also been a member of the Professional Services Review Panel for the Health Insurance Commission since 1995. From 1986 to 1991 Dr Richardson held consultant and teaching appointments in obstetrics and gynaecology at Fremantle Hospital alongside working in infertility management, including in vitro fertilisation at PIVET Medical Centre. Until 2008 he had a private consulting practice in high-risk obstetrics and gynaecology with an interest in urogynaecology, hysteroscopy and pelviscopic surgery. In 2007 he re-commenced practice at PIVET in assisted reproductive technology and reproductive endocrinology. Currently Dr Richardson is practicing at PIVET and our sister clinic Cairns Fertility Centre.
