Your Treatment Journey
For your first appointment, you need to present as a couple to your General Practitioner. Your GP will then explain the required steps for initial investigation and arrange to have the following tests performed:
- Physical examination of both male and female partners.
- Blood tests for both partners.
- Ultrasound scans for both partners.
- A semen analysis.
You will be required to also complete a questionnaire regarding your medical history.
Once your GP has received all the relevant information and results, they can refer you onwards to our visiting Fertility Specialist, if they are happy for you to proceed. Bookings can be made directly at Top End Medical Centre, Stuart Park.
Meeting your Fertility Specialist
The Fertility Specialist will review your results and arrange to commence treatment once all tests are in order. Your Fertility Specialist will prescribe stimulatory drugs for your treatment cycle and put you in touch with a Fertility Nurse at Cairns Fertility Centre who will arrange all testing and guide through your IVF cycle.
You will be able to commence stimulatory drugs in Darwin and we will provide regular contact with a Fertility Nurse at Cairns Fertility Centre.
Stimulatory hormones usually commence on Day-2 of your menstrual cycle. Your GP as well as our Fertility Nurses can assist you regarding dosages of drugs. Stimulatory drugs are usually given until around Day-12 and you would have to be prepared to travel to Cairns at around Day-6 of your cycle to be there for the monitoring prior to egg collection and embryo transfer.
You should aim to stay for a period of approximately 14 days and our Fertility Nurses will confirm your length of stay following egg collection and embryo transfer.
